In the spirit of demystifying life after college, Design Around Town is committed to providing opportunities for local design students to be more thoroughly immersed in the many ground-breaking design firms in the Northeast Ohio market. The objective is to provide access to a variety of design offices, design types, design philosophies and design professionals by facilitating opportunities to tour firms, furniture dealerships and job sites.
Taking to the streets on a hot late summer day, the group walked to Payto Architects (https://www.paytoarchitects.com/) the first stop on our firm tour series for the day.
Christy Payto, of Point of View Interior Design (http://www.povinteriordesign.com/) and interior design Payto’s primary designer, was kind enough to rally the troops to share the design principles, practices and practices with the group while engaging other key members of their small but mighty team.
Thank you to the Payto Architects office for hosting the group and in particular, a big thank you to:
Gerry Payto, AIA
Jeff Foster, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, NCARB
The second stop of the day brought the group to HSB Architects + Engineers (http://www.hsbarch.com/) Director of Interior Design Anna Baldi shared an overview of the firm’s work styles and practices as well as a tremendous amount of professional insight for the emerging designers in attendance that day.
Many thanks to the HSB Architects + Engineers office for hosting us and in particular:
Anna Baldi, Director of Interior Design
Marisa Melchior, Associate IIDA
Summer Pacholke, IIDA, NCIDQ
Nichole Netzband, Associate IIDA
Shaping out the day of professional development brought the group back to the Inspire Workplace Interiors (https://www.inspireworkplaceinteriors.com/) showroom where key members of their staff shared insight on the value of a contract furniture dealership in the design process and how their skilled team members can guarantee success on commercial projects.
Specials thanks to Inspire Workplace Interiors as well for providing refreshments for the group and opening up their beautiful showroom space to provide for some continued networking amongst the students in attendance.
A special shout out to Mindy Caldren, Market Sales Manager for Kimball and IIDA Cleveland Akron City Center Membership Coordinator, for joining the group to share her professional journey and insight into membership of IIDA.
Without the support of the following Inspire Workplace Interiors team members, the day simply would not have been feasible:
Another special shout out to our group of Bowling Green State University Interior Design (https://www.bgsu.edu/academics/interior-design.html) students who made the trip to Cleveland for our event. We were absolutely thrilled to have you with us for the day!
Cheers to another successful Design Around Town event! IIDA Cleveland Akron looks forward to providing more and more professional development and enrichment opportunities for our local design students.
