Darci Puryear is the A&D specification manager for Louisville Tile Distributors in Louisville, KY. She graduated with a design degree from the University of Kentucky and has held a variety of positions in the industry over the last 19 years.
After graduation, Darci spent 10 years in facilities design & management for Brown Forman. She transitioned into sales at ORI and Humanscale, before accepting her current role with Louisville Tile three and a half years ago. Darci describes the move into sales as a turning point in her career. A true people pleaser, she realized that she loved the increased interaction with the design community that a sales role afforded her. “I love to feel like I’m helping. I get obsessed and can’t stop looking until I find the perfect solutions for my designers,” she laughs. “I also love the creativity involved with having exposure to so many different projects at once.” She is currently working on her all time favorite project, but can’t share any of the top secret details just yet. She describes it as custom, hands on, and is excited that she is part of a team creating something so unique!
Darci has been heavily involved with IIDA for many years. When asked what IIDA means to her, she emphasizes that it is a unique and important opportunity to be involved and support each other within the design community. Her recommendation to young designers would be to get involved and to explore the many avenues the industry has to offer. “Don’t be afraid to try something you aren’t comfortable with, and be open to a variety of opportunities,” she says.
Outside of work, she loves to spend time gardening and entertaining. She’s always working on some sort of project whether for herself or for someone in her large extended family. When asked if she would continue working if she hit the lottery, she says that although she loves her job, she would have to take off on several world travels…first stop: Greece!
