On Friday February 28th the new White Castle Headquarters, along with Kaitlin Kingrey from M+A, hosted the IIDA student relations committee and 20+ design students from OSU, CCAD, and OU in a tour of their brand new facility. Their new space, located on the same lot that their previous building once stood, is a testament to the White Castle brand as well as to their company culture. Kaitlin and John Kelley, a member of the White Castle Family, toured students through the building pointing out key design features and experiential moments that not only spoke to who White Castle is but also who White Castle was. Students got to see how Kaitlin and her team incorporated aspects of the old headquarters into the new. The old White Castle logo was preserved and located outside the upper level balcony, and students learned that the new front doors were made from steel taken from the old building.
As students toured the facility, they learned about the detailed design process, and how Kaitlin and her team worked with White Castle staff to create a space that not only promoted the history and artifacts of White Castle but also celebrated their growth. From the custom designed slider Throne featured in the lobby, the creative and well thought through graphics and wayfinding, to the metal slide connecting Level two to the lobby, students got taste of the true White Castle Cravings.
