In early September of this year, IIDA Cincinnati Dayton held a tour at the University of Dayton. This event was co-hosted with AIA Cincinnati/Dayton which brought members from both associations together for an insightful tour. The tour's focus was to expose folks in the industry to some amazing work that is bridging the gap from a university and a city. Overall, the tour was well attended and included some interesting aspects that made it well rounded, rather than just a walk through. With a happy hour that followed just down the street, it was a great way to cap off a successful event.
The tour took place at the Roger Glass Fine Arts Center. This unique tour gave attendees a chance to see the push for the arts as well as community engagement that is happening in and around the University. The University and Cities commitment to breaking the barriers between one another to share a space that all can be creative and utilize was an amazing idea that followed with the design of this building. This specific building is able to showcase creative spaces from A-Z, whether it was radio, newsprint, acting, TV, fine art or music.
The group also was able to have guided tours from the different entities that worked on the project as well as a member of the staff who currently manages the building. This allowed the group to have an in depth look on how each space was thought out in the planning of the building as well as how it is currently being used by the students and the community. Overall, it was a great turn out for the event and members were able to be shown an interesting construction that has a lot to offer for the university and the city of Dayton alike.
