Our local outreach team had a very exciting day with the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center this week! Our team explored the role of interior design within architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines with the senior class in the Architectural and Mechanical Design program – which was a fulfilling class for both us and the students!

Both our presentation and activity centered on the importance of collaboration between design disciplines – highlighting our shared goal: to protect the health, safety and welfare of the communities we serve. The purpose of this activity was to help the students describe design in elevation and understand the impact of design / adjacency connections within the realm of renovation / adaptive reuse work. After completing the activity, each student shared their work with the group and voted on which presentations best met the activity’s goal, as well as which presentation they thought was the most engaging.
After the class, we had some great informal conversations with the curious students about wayfinding, acoustics, building codes, and next steps to learn more about the field of interior design.
One of the goals of our Outreach committee is to continue to engage students at younger ages and expose them to the field of interior design. We are excited to continue with this initiative and loved kicking off a year of outreach with the CVCC.
